"We do not see things as they are. We see them as we are."
— Anaïs Nin, Seduction of the Minotaur, 1961
Doctrine note: The Logic Engine exists because perception is not neutral — it is filtered by the perceiver before the information reaches the assessment stage. The practitioner who does not account for this filtering is not perceiving the field. They are perceiving their own interpretation of it.
The Logic Engine is the operating procedure of the Mastermind mind. Four stages. Errors in any stage produce degraded outputs regardless of how sound the subsequent stages are. Most people operate without an explicit logic engine — perceiving what is most salient, interpreting what is most convenient, acting on what feels correct, and occasionally noticing when outcomes diverge from expectations without understanding why. The Mastermind makes this process explicit — which makes it controllable, improvable, and reliable under pressure rather than degrading under it.
Named Concept
The Validation Loop
The feedback mechanism that converts individual decisions into a continuously improving decision-making system. Compare the result against the prediction. Ask what any divergence reveals about the accuracy of the assessment that produced the action. Update the model. Over time, the practitioner who runs the Validation Loop after every significant action builds assessment capability that improves continuously rather than plateauing.
"The quality of every decision is determined before it is made — by the quality of the perception and interpretation that preceded it."
— The Mastermind
The Fulfillment Condition
The Fulfillment Condition for the Logic Engine: all four stages must be completed in sequence. Stage 3 is only available after Stages 1 and 2 have been completed with discipline. Stage 4 is only useful if the assessment from Stages 1 and 2 was recorded before the action was taken.
IX
The practitioner who cannot be wrong cannot improve. Honest validation of every outcome is non-negotiable.
The Validation Loop requires the practitioner to be capable of updating their model when outcomes contradict their assessment. Defending the assessment against the evidence disables the only mechanism that converts experience into improvement.
